As reflected in our state’s community college curriculum, students’ quantitative literacy is of paramount importance. Coming up with meaningful ideas to use in the course can be difficult. In this talk I’ll share some of the discussions forum topics and projects I used in an online college algebra course at Appalachian, and discuss how they could easily be used in the QL course at the community college level. Many of the projects allow for student choice and to research topics of their own interest, so students’ engagement is inherent. Student feedback, as well as promising statistical results regarding students’ change in attitude over the course of the semester, will be shared. Come by and get ready-to-use or adapt ideas for your QL course!
