Previewing Calculus in College Algebra and Pre-Calculus

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

We will investigate how the concepts of “Area” and “Rate of Change” can be extended so students can preview the Calculus concepts of Integration and Differentiation. We will explore speed and velocity versus time problems to preview Integration, and distance versus time problems to preview Differentiation. We will preview derivatives, differentiable functions, integrals, limits, end behavior of graphs, graph analysis, extrema, inflection points, asymptotic behavior, and the Mean Value Theorem. The problems will be appropriate for students in any class up to and including the course before Calculus, but they could also be used in remedial math classes.
